At the latest Chanel Fashion show, the genius that is Karl Lagerfeld came out in full glory as his models paraded around an enormous sculpture of a gold lion pawing a huge pearl. Another bizarre quality of the show? The quintessentially Chanel LBD was nowhere to be found among the collection. It is replaced, instead, with a little white dress, and perhaps a few little red and little green ones too. They’re no less Chanel than the LBD would have been, but it’s shocking nonetheless.

What this means for us: Well, many would assume this is Karl’s way of saying the LBD may in fact be slipping out of style. However, we all know that will never be true. It will always be a classic piece, but it may go in and out of being officially trendy at the moment. Not to fear. What you can get from this picture is that a tight, knee-length white dress, or one in various colors, is replacing it for the moment as a go-to piece. We should do well to abide by the fashion king’s laws. Look for a sophisticated LWD and save your LBD for another season.

And don’t you just love the boots…
