Italian-ism

20 Jul

Tribute today to one of my fashion heroines, Elsa Schiaparelli. This Italian fashion goddess was the inventor of some of the most popular additions to the fashion world I can imagine. Inventor of the color “shocking pink” (as seen here on these FABULOUS booties), many young girls owe her thanks for their most treasured shade. She also originated the exposed zipper along with being the first to dye the zipper to match the color of the garment. These are both huge trends now. They had to do all the hard work back in the day to set the stage for the fashion scene. Guess we have it easy now, don’t we?

Made famous during the 1920s, Elsa cherished the “shocking” design element and made her way by creating some of the most innovative and intriguing designs of the 20th century. At a time when Italy’s fashion scene was only just beginning to evolve, Elsa took her expertise to the center of the fashion world – Paris – and left a huge mark.
